Kerry Siam Seaport Terminal
Ao Udon, Chonburi, Thailand
Kerry Siam Seaport required a jetty supported by an onshore depot in order to handle the export of mainly sugar, raw and refined, as well as molasses and other agricultural bulk cargoes (fertiliser, woodchips, etc) and general cargo in break-bulk format (construction materials, etc). The depot facilities covered approximately 20ha and comprised storage sheds for sugar, tanks for molasses, sheds for general cargo and open areas for other cargoes.

Phase 1 of the jetty facilities comprised a 400m long wharf with four berths for vessels ranging form barges to 60,000 dwt. Access to the wharf involved a 2.7km long approach bridge with a two-lane road for heavy trucks. Bridge spans were 25m inshore and 30m offshore. SMC were responsible for planning the total facility, managing the environmental impact assessment, detailed design, tendering procedures and assessment as well as construction supervision of the approach bridge and jetty facilities.

After several years of successful operation the client required a 230m extension to the existing berths. This Phase 2 was to enable container handling in addition to the range of cargoes that could already be catered for at the facility. Working in close collaboration with the client to ensure coordination between the deck design and the cranes to be used, SMC were responsible for the detailed structural design of the jetty extension, the electrical supply for the container cranes and for construction supervision.
