Sriracha Harbour
Sri Racha, Eastern Seaboard, Thailand
Sriracha Harbour PCL, a subsidiary of the NTS Steel Group, required a facility through which to import scrap steel for the Group’s steel mill at Chonburi. This entailed a jetty and depot at Sri Racha able to handle such imports as well as the domestic export of steel products and other cargoes.

The depot covers about four hectares and includes administration and maintenance buildings and a transit storage area. Jetty facilities comprise a 450m long wharf with four berths for vessels ranging from barges to ships of 45,000 dwt. The berth is equipped with two 25t slewing quayside cranes. Access to the wharf is a two-lane 2.7km long approach bridge of 19 m spans crossing an existing conveyor feeding tapioca to an offshore loading berth.

SMC were responsible for planning the overall facility, outline design of the jetty, tendering procedures on a design / construct basis for the jetty, checking the construction design and for supervising construction of the jetty. For the depot, SMC designed the building / civil works, carried out tendering procedures and supervised construction. SMC also designed electrical facilities for the cranes and assisted in the testing / commissioning of these.

In 2008 SMC were engaged to study and design a 160m northerly extension to the original berth structure.
