Muang Thong Thani New Town Infrastructure

Muang Thong Thani was a private new town development on the northern outskirts of Bangkok designed for an ultimate population in excess of 500,000 people.  Designed to be built in phases, the earlier stages which were constructed accommodated for some 375,000 people.

SMC were commissioned by the developer Bangkok Land to lead and manage a multi-disciplinary. Our scope included:

Preparing a master plan for the development of infrastructure for the whole project, involving:
  • area drainage and flood protection
  • road networks
  • water supply
  • sewerage and sewage treatment
  • power and telephone reticulation (mostly underground)
  • solid waste disposal
Coordinating the provision of infrastructure by assisting Bangkok Land in:
  • detailed design preparation and checking
  • construction contract packaging
  • liaison with public authorities on the provision of services
  • provision of transportation links and connections with external links
Reporting on various key aspects of the development, such as:
  • regional canal improvements
  • preliminary design of overpass structures.  
SMC also undertook the detailed engineering design of the roadworks and drainage which included:
  • 8.7 km of primary distributor roads
  • 10.2 km of secondary distributor roads
  • 15.1 km local roads
