Bangkok Transit System, Elevated Mass Transit Railway

The Bangkok Transit System is an elevated mass transit rail system developed by the Bangkok Transit System Corporation (BTSC), the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s concessionaire for the project.  It involves 20km of elevated railway and 21 stations, built along Bangkok’s busiest roads together with a depot, administration buildings and other support facilities.

SMC were appointed by BTSC to lead a consulting group which undertook the study, design, technical and performance specification of:
  • Track alignment
  • Ridership analyses
  • Traffic management
  • All preliminary civil, structural, electrical and mechanical engineering
  • Signals and communications
  • Power supply
  • Fare collection system
  • Rolling stock
  • Workshop equipment
SMC also undertook the preparation of all tender documentation for a single turnkey contract to implement the complete system.
